Organizational Leadership & Structure

NSN is overseen by a Board of directors, and is managed by an Executive Committee comprised of six chapter officers and 8 committee chairs.

CHAPTER OFFICERS

President (Edgar Wright) is responsible for the overall direction of the organization, presiding over all meetings and representing the organization to the public. He is also the liaison between the national headquarters and the Chicago Chapter.
Vice-President of Finance (Lisa Steadman) serves in absence of the president and is accountable for the well being of the organization. Mentoring, Finance, and Membership Committees roll up to 1st VP.
Vice-President of Events (Carolyn Booth)  serves in the absence of the 1st Vice-President, and is accountable for the planning and execution of chapter events. Program, Annual Conference, and Public Relations Committees roll up to 2nd VP.
Treasurer (Aloha Simpson ) is the custodian of all financial records/bank accounts. She is responsible for collection of fees and for disbursements.
Corresponding Secretary (Rhonda Howell) represents the organization to the public and is the liaison between the local chapter and organizations with which we do business.
Recording Secretary (Tambra Chadwell) records and reviews the minutes at each Executive committee meeting, and mails meeting updates to all members. She is also responsible for our voice mail system and coordinating mailings.

COMMITTEE CHAIRS

Membership Committee (Michael Bridges & Twana Jenkins, Co-Chairs) is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to increase the number of NSN members.
Program Committee (Aretha Johnson & Andre Mitchell, Co-Chairs) is responsible for planning and executing the various programs of the organization, including workshops, seminars, speaker engagements, and discussions panels and networking affairs.
Mentoring Committee (Charles Sallee, Chairperson) is responsible for developing and implementing NSN’s effort to cultivate relationships internally (between members) and externally (between organization members and the community).
Finance Committee (Dorothy Moore, Chairperson) is responsible for raising money for the organization and ensuring we have capital with which to operate.
Annual Conference Committee is responsible for the local chapter’s contribution to, participation in, and attendance at the NSN Annual Conference.
Marketing Committee (Contessa Gibson & Brenda Marshall, Co-Chairs) is accountable for marketing the organization to the public. This includes press releases, flyers, internal communication or any other materials and/or methods used to promote the organization.

We encourage new members to seek positions on one or more of the committees. Not only will the dedication of time and effort benefit the organization, but also will allow you to assess and improve such critical skills as organization, communication, the ability to work on a team and generally allow you to help chart the direction of the organization.
